Based on true events, Good Not Great follows Matt Pavich, a manic-bipolar stand-up comedian from Queens, New York. After a bitter breakup with his wife, a drug-fueled manic episode lands him in a psychiatric hospital for the eighth time.
Forced sober and stripped of the caseworker he had relied on for years, Matt has to break his chaotic, fractured memories down for a brand-new therapist. The story unfolds through therapy sessions, stand-up sets, and raw, delirious flashbacks.
The film uses humor to make severe mental health struggles discussable without ever turning into a lecture. Film Threat compared its rambunctious energy to Terry Gilliam directing an A24 movie.
